Asking why combines relentless curiosity with an insatiable appetite to learn. Understanding and challenging existing thoughts, processes and perspectives opens the door for opportunity.
I’m proud of my excessively optimistic attitude. I do not believe being optimistic and being realistic are mutually exclusive. I see optimism as a choice that creates positivity; both in me and for those around me.
Confidence and self-belief are important, but arrogance is not. Humility is a trait that I believe breeds genuine respect from those around me.
Understanding & demonstrating empathy are drivers for success; both in the conventional understanding of the word but more importantly in the perspective of creating a well-rounded human being. Empathy builds strong relationships and facilitates my own personal growth.
Laugh, play & never take anything too seriously. People reminisce about the joy & simplicity of childhood but I believe the same pleasures can be achieved at any age. Social constructs about ‘adulthood’ are not good enough reasons to not enjoy yourself.
Find the passion
Not matter how hard, difficult or menial a task may be if it forms part of your passion it becomes so much easier. I believe work-life balance is bullshit; it's all one thing - LIFE. I recognise that I have been lucky to fill my day with problems, people & ideas that I am a passionate about.
Strive for change
More than simply embracing change I strive to find it. Whether it's a new technology, a new idea, or a new person, change to me is synonymous with progress, growth, opportunity & excitement. I'm not so ignorant as to think all change is good, but when it presents itself I believe that the glass starts half-full.
Give more than you take
I give full credit to Derek Anderson from Startup Grind for empowering me to recognise how important this actually was to me. It seems so simple and yet often it is not considered. I always try to offer something before I ever ask for something and this approach has always served me well.
